Honoring the Legacy: Women Creating Rhythm
Women Who Drum Festival was founded by drummer educator extrodinaire, Gayelynn McKinney as a space where these stories through drumming can be heard, celebrated, and carried forward. The festival recognizes that rhythm is not only musical; it lives in the ways women nurture community, preserve memory, and pass knowledge from one generation to the next.
Now entering its fifth year, the Women Who Drum Festival has become a vital platform for uplifting women percussionists, preserving cultural traditions, fostering wellness, and strengthening community connections through music.

Funds raised from this event will support:

Festival production and operations
Artist honorariums
Educational and community programming
Wellness and healing-centered activities
Archival and documentation efforts
Marketing and outreach
Accessibility initiatives for audiences and participants
This fundraiser at Miss Eva’s Detroit is an opportunity to support the festival and honor Women drummers! Through storytelling, rhythm, fellowship, and shared meals, we celebrate the women who came before us and the legacy they leave in our hands.
